Philippine problems discussed
PA Wellington A four-day conference about the Philippines has ended in Wellington. The conference, endorsed by the Federation of Labour, had discussed problems affecting Philippine workers, students, and tribal groups, said a conference spokeman, Mr Mike Smith. The programme of lectures by the six visiting Philippine delegates, workshops, and plenary sessions had produced a series of resolutions for future action in support of the Philippine people, he said. These included: 9 An end to all military links and associations with the Philippine armed forces. © A call for review of New Zealand aid to the Philippines in order to ensure it reached the needy and not multinational corporations. O Support for workers in their strikes and struggle. ® Amnesty for all political prisoners and detainees under custody.
