Shipping groups agreement
The Shaw Savill Line and the Owens Group, Ltd, have reached agreement on the management of Shaw Savill operations in New Zealand. The Owens Group has been appointed as manager for the New Zealand affairs of Shaw Savill and will also act as New Zealand managing agents for the Furness Withy Shipping Group. The managing director of Shaw Savill New Zealand, Ltd, Mr W. T. Jones, and the joint managing director of the Owens Group, Ltd, Mr K. M. Forsyth, said the agreement would become effective from August 1, 1984. Staff of Shaw Savill New Zealand have been transferred to the Owens Group under the arrangement. Shaw Savill shareholdings in the Lodge Hotel, the James Cook Hotel and Atlantic and Pacific Travel, Ltd, have been excluded from the deal. “We are delighted and proud to be entrusted with this responsibility by such an internationally known and respected company as Furness Withy,” Mr Forsyth said. The two groups have had a long association which was begun during the time the chairman of the Owens Group, Mr Bob Owens, served at sea with shaw Savill. Mr Jones of Shaw Savill, who has a special interest in shipping, will be a member of the Owens Group’s senior management team. ARRIVALS Mys Chasavoy (7 a.m.), 2327, sea (Scales).
