U.N. convention on women
Sir,—l dare not point out the horrible logical conclusions of Jill Wilcox’s altruism (August 24) for fear she takes it seriously — suffice to ask what possible gain can there be by promoting “the position of women on a world scale” by binding ourselves tighter to totalitarianism with yet more international legislation? We have the right, even the obligation, to maintain the freedoms we still have, and this aim will not be furthered by becoming a signatory to more legislation, especially when 80 per cent of those currently supporting it are totalitarian States.—Yours, etc., JOHN HARRIS. August 24, 1984.
