Witnesses wanted
The Christchurch police seek witnesses to a hit-and-run accident in Fendalton early on Sunday morning in which a cyclist was seriously injured. The cyclist, Peter John Seward, aged 30, of Bishopdale, was seriously ill in the intensive-care unit at Christchurch Hospital last evening. Mr Seward was cycling north on Clyde Road about 12.30 a.m. on Sunday when he was hit by a south-bound car, believed to be a 1961 to 1967 green Triumph Herald. The car then apparently mounted the footpath, returned to the road, and turned left into Jeffreys Road. The police would like to hear from the persons sitting in a car parked outside the Waimairi District Council offices in Jeffreys Road at the time. A parachute or sail was apparently hanging from the back of the car involved in the accident, said a police spokesman.
