Patient on sodomy charge
PA Auckland A committed Oakley Hospital patient was remanded to Mount Eden prison yesterday charged with committing sodomy and indecent assault on a boy aged four. Judge Blackwood, in the District Court at Auckland, remanded Dennis Wayne Ford, aged 27, a beneficiary of no fixed abode, in custody to September 10. The Judge said that Ford, while in Mount Eden prison, was to be examined by a psychiatrist Mr Roger Chambers, counsel for Ford, said the defendant needed specialist and urgent examination by a psychiatrist In view of the apparent ease with which Ford left a secure ward, Mr Chambers said, it was appropriate that he be held in custody.
