Task force named for new Ministry
PA Wellington A task force to draw up guidelines for the proposed new Ministry for the Environment has been named. The group has met the Minister for the Environment, Mr Marshall, and will report to him next month with ideas on the role and functions for the Ministry. Mr Marshall said that he would use the report as a basis for wider consultation. The group is: Mr Ted Fraser, deputy director of the Town and Country Plantuning Division of ttj< Ministry of Works; an executive officer
with the Environmental Council; and Mr David McKerchar, director of National Parks and Reserves for the Lands and Survey Department The Commissioner for the Environment, Mr Ken Piddington, will work with the group until its report is finished. Mr Marshall said that he had asked the group to start with a clear commitment to Labour’s policy statement on the environment “This is to bring environmental considerations to bear on the whole direction of our future planOg for development” he saw.
