Faker worth £91,000
From
DIANA DEKKER
London The art faker, Tom Keating, left an estate valued a £ 91,828, it was disclosed in London. Keating died intestate in February, aged 66. He claimed to have produced about 2000 fakes in 25 years and was, in a case which created world-wide interest in 1977, charged with criminal deception. The charges were subsequently dropped and he eventually became a television celebrity with his own television series, “Keating on Painters.” Christie’s will sell the contents of his studio at Dedham, Suffolk, on September 10. The sale will include paintings he did while making the television
series, landscapes, still-lifes, and portraits. Christies sold 150 of Keating’s paintings for £75,000 last December.
