Schools’ choir rehearses
Dr Guy Jansen, an education officer in music, conducts a rehearsal of the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Choir yesterday. Eighty-six pupils from throughout New Zealand are taking part in the choir which will give a performance in Christchurch Cathedral tomorrow evening. The programme will include works by Brahms, Bruckner, Durufle, and John Rutter as well as several other choral arrangements. The choir will be accompanied by a brass ensemble, organ, and piano. The choir members are billeted in Christchurch and begin each day with voice training and warm-ups. The choir then rehearses before splitting into smaller groups. Each person auditioned for a place in the choir by sending in a tape of his or her singing. Dr Jansen recently returned from the United States where he completed a doctorate in choral music.
