Canine tendencies of man surfaced

PA Napier A man who barked like a dog at cars was told by a judge that he should wear a leash if he continued to act that way. Lawrence Raymond Tonkin, aged 50, an assistant lineman, appeared before Judge Tucker in the District Court at Napier. Tonkin had admitted behaving in a disorderly manner and said that his canine tendencies surfaced only after he had been drinking. The Judge convicted and fined Tonkin $l5O and said that if he carried on like

that every time he went drinking he would have to ; get a friend to go out with him and be put on a leash. The police prosecutor, Sergeant Brian Elliott, said that Tonkin was seen to cross Emerson Street soon after 8.10 a.m. on August 10 several times and to disrupt traffic on odd occasions. Tonkin was asked to stop by a police constable but he continued to make a menace of himself, Sergeant Elliott said. The defendant was then seen to bark like a dog at a number of vehicles.
