Response slow to A.A. call

The Automobile Association has had a slow response to its campaign against road sign vandalism and theft The two-week campaign began on August 15 and offers an amnesty on souvenired signs and a $2OO reward to anyone who gives information leading to the conviction of vandals. The association’s chief service officer, Mr A. H. Daniel, said at the half-way stage of the campaign that only three or four signs had been recovered. “These will be picked up in the next few days” he said. Mr Daniel said there was now one possibility of a conviction. “There are certainly a number of signs still around and about. We hope people will bring these in of their own free will,” he said. The campaign follows closely the association’s successful “sign breaker-law-breaker” campaign.
