4WD Shuttle?
Just as NZMC, Ltd, is preparing itself to bring the saga of the launch of the 1984 Honda Civic and Accord lines to a close with the debut of the Honda Shuttle, a modishly high-rise styled station waggon, rumours abound that a four-wheel-drive version , is well on its way down the pipeline. In fact, the latest intelligence is that two orototvaes
were air freighted from Japan to Christchurch at vast expense recently and were driven to the Mackenzie Country for testing in the wintry conditions usually experienced around Tekapo at this time of the year. Although if seems unlikely that the 4WD Shuttles lost themselves in snowdrifts, nothing has been heard of them since they headed for the Mount Cook region. / Whether the 4WD Shuttle
is fact or fantasy cannot be confirmed at this stage, but what is known is that Honda is working on a 4WD coupe similar in appearance but larger than the CR-X coupe. It will probably make its first public apperance at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year. Maybe the launch of the 1.5-litre front-wheel-drive Shuttle will write finish to NZMC’s 1984 Honda saga and at the same time presage the beginner of another in 1985 or 1986.
