Posters claim man a rapist
The Christchurch police are investigating a complaint from a man about posters which describe him as a rapist. Several of the unattributed posters were put up in central Christchurch yesterday.
Detective Superintendent Brian James confirmed that the police were looking into the matter after the man named laid a complaint. The posters carry a photograph of the man. A message on them says that he was transferred to Christchurch after raping a woman in another South Island city. Recognised women’s groups in Christchurch have disclaimed responsibility for the posters. The man named could not be reached for comment.
The poster also says where the man works.
The police yesterday were not sure how many of the posters had been put up. This is the second such recent . incident in Christchurch.
In June, a group calling itself Women in Christchurch distributed 6000 pamphlets with allegations about another man. Graffiti, detailing his “activities,” was written on footpaths in the central city.
