House burglar convicted
Property worth $2078 was taken after Alan James Malloch broke into a house in Montreal Street while the occupants were asleep, the District Court was told yesterday. Malloch, aged 20, a labourer, admitted the burglary which took place at 2 a.m. on July 28. He was convicted by Judge Paterson and remanded in custody until today for sentence. Sergeant W. P. Creasey said Malloch got into the house through an unsecured window at the rear.
While the occupants, a man and his wife, were asleep in bed, Malloch took a $lBOO video, a woman’s coat and $77 in cash. As a result of police inquiries, the video was recovered at a Burke Street address, and the coat at an address in Bealey Avenue. In explanation, Malloch said he committed the burglary to obtain money to buy drugs, said Sergeant Creasey. FRAUD CHARGES No pleas were entered to 26 charges of fraud, involving $3347, laid against
Theresa Marie Wilson. Wilson, aged 22, 'unemployed, is charged with committing the offences at Palmerston North between May 10 and 19. BAIL REMAND A freezing worker facing three charges of carrying on the business of a bookmaker, was remanded on bail to August 30. Philip Graeme Shatford, aged 27, a freezing worker (Mr M. J. Glue), did not plead. He is charged with committing the offences on June 30, July 7, and August 11.
