Youth in the ring
Plenty of budding young Olympic boxers will be on show at the Canterbury association’s amateur tournament at the Richmond Working Men’s Club on Sunday afternoon. Many of the more seasoned competitors have a prior commitment at the national championships which begin in Rotorua next Tuesday. Fourteen bopts have been
carded for the Canterbury tournament. Among them will be a rematch between Craig Houlihan (Hickson’s) and Tom Toomalatai (Papanui).
Houlihan gained a points decision over his fellow southpaw in a crowd-pleas-ing contest last June. Since then Toomalatai has had two wins and Houlihan one in Christchurch tournaments.
