Conditions for rich series

Winners will not have any preference when fields for semi-finals of the New Zealand Sires’ Stakes Three-year-old Series are run in a few weeks. The Sires’ Stakes Board has decided to call early nominations for each semifinal, three of which will be run in the South Island and two in the North Island. The first two place-getters in each semi-final will qualify for the $100,009 final, to be run at Addington Raceway on November 13. The South Island semifinals, each carrying a stake of $6OOO, will be run . at Ashburton on September 29, Invercargill on October 30 andAddingtononNovember6. The North Island semi-

finals will be run at Auckland and Cambridge on dates to be announced. If entries for each semifinal exceed 10 a series of heats will be run in the preceding week. Semi-finals fields will be selected solely on form shown in the heats. It is not intended to abolish the right of any horse to contest more than one semifinal, but once a horse has won and qualified for the final it will be excluded.

At this stage 188 horses are eligible to contest the series. They include 22 winners and eight of the 10 horses which contested the inaugural $lOO,OOO Image International Stakes last May.
