Badminton seeds
Ryan Whittle of Auckland and Canterbury’s top woman, Jane Clarke, head the seedings for the Admiral Lodge South Island badminton championships, which will be held at the Skellerup Hall this week-end. Whittle, one of a crop of promising young players in the country, has a national ranking of five. Miss Clarke.has proved herself indisputably the South Island’s top woman with her performances this season, including winning her first provincial open title. Entries for the championships are low this year, but have not been helped by injuries, most notably that suffered by Shane Tetai, the
national under 19 champion, which has ended his badminton season. The seedings are:— Men’s singles. — R. Whittle (Auckland) 1, P. Gulasekharam 2, M. Lindsay (Southland) 3, C. Crosweller 4. Women’s singles. — J. Clarke 1, A. Ross 2. Men’s doubles. — Gulasekharam and Lindsay 1, M. Reid and M. Chambers 2. Women’s doubles. — Miss Clarke and Miss Ross 1, T. Perry and D. Barrett 2. Mixed doubles. — Whittle and Miss Ross, 1, Lindsay and Miss Clarke 2, G. Miller and Mrs Perry 3, Gulasekharam and R. Askew 4.
