NZPA-AAP London Waitresses at a Derbyshire restaurant have been told to slim down or lose their job. The Berni Inn chain will close its Royal Restaurant in Long Eaton for two weeks next month — and has told its 30 staff that only waitresses who can fit into a size 14 uniform will be offered their jobs back. The “Daily Telegraph” newspaper said that several pluipper women had little chaifee of shedding the weight in time and expected
to lose their jobs. The Hotel and Catering Workers’ Union is considering an appeal to the Equal Opportunities Commission over the case and is planning to picket Berni Inns in the area to urge women to boycott them. '"This is immoral and sexist,” said the regional organiser, Graeme Fraser. “The next thing they will sack anyone who does not have blond hair and blue eyes.” The-.company has said it will t?y to find other jote for any displaced staff. ’
