Holding turns the test tide
NZPA-Reuter London England began the last day of the fifth cricket test against the West Indies at The Oval needing 224 runs for victory, but with only five second innings wickets remaining. Its hopes of avoiding a 5-0 whitewash in the series rested with lan Botham, who had scored a typically robust 32 not out by stumps yesterday. Three quick wickets to Michael Holding caused the England innings to crumble from 75 for one to 90 for four after the home side had made a promising start towards its victory target of 375. England’s previous highest total in the series was 300. Scoreboard:— WEST INDIES First innings 190 Second innings C. G. Greenidge c Botham b Agnew 34 D. L. Haynes b Botham . 125 H. A.
