Warning on jeans rash
NZPA Moscow Soviet dermatologists say young people who wear tight blue jeans may develop a jeans rash, a Moscow newspaper has reported. The “Moskovskaya Pravda” article linked the problem to the synthetic fabrics used in some jeans, saying the fibres trap perspiration next to the skin. The report cautioned readers that jeans were designed to be loose fitting for wear during physical labour. The newspaper said wearers of tight jeans might also develop inflammation of the stomach and kidneys, but did not explain why such ailments might occur. The Soviet press regularly criticises citizens for buying Western blue jeans on the black market, where some brands are reportedly offered for up to $5OO a pair.
