Obituary Mr John Galvin
PA Dannevirke The rugby and racing administrator, Mr John Galvin, died suddenly at Whangarei on August 12. He was 82. Mr Galvin was president of the New Zealand Rugby Union in 1977 and a consistent promoter of BushWairarapa amalgamation. He was also president of the Pahiatua Racing Club. At the time of his death, Mr Galvin was in Whangarei to watch the representative rugby match between Wairarapa Bush ahd North Auckland.
A keen rugby player, he represented the old Bush Union for many years before amalgamation with Wairarapa. He was the first president of the new wairarapa-Bush Rugby Union and later became its patron. Mr Galvin raced two horses in partnership, a mare, Westend, and a hurdler, Finlay. His wife, the late Mrs Enid Galvin, was president of the New Zealand Rose Society. Mir Galvin is survived by a son and two daughters.
