A working model of a side-tank locomotive, one of a range of steam-driven models manufactured by a British company, Mamod, Ltd. The RS3 engine and carriages above are made from heavy gauge metal and the fittings are of solid brass. The locomotive has forward and reverse movement and is powered by a tiny twin-cylinder, double-acting steam engine. Solid fuel tablets in a burner tray heat the boiler. The full range of models includes traction engines, steam rollers, an Edwardian-style motor-car, and stationary engines. Many are used for educational purposes and most are compatible with Meccano and other kit construction sets.
