Burnside visitors
The captain of the Kugayama High School rugby team of Tokyo, Ken Onoe, is flanked by Japanese exchange students, Tomoe Taki, of Tokyo (left), and Yuko Kanai, of Suitama, in Christchurch yesterday. Both parties are being billeted with Burnside High School pupils and the simultaneous arrival of the two groups was coincidental but welcome as the members of the rugby team speak little English. The 22 players, aged between 16 and 18, arrived in Christchurch on Thursday on their only South Island stop to play the Burnside High School First XV this afternoon.
While here, they have been shopping for rugby jerseys and other souvenirs. Later today they will watch a video of the All BlacksAustralia test match. The exchange students are attending classes at Bumside for three weeks, the first group to do so under the Japan Council youth exchange scene. The Kugayama rugby team will return to Auckland tomorrow.
