Robin on dollar
The Chatham Island black robin will feature on the 1984 collectors’ $1 coin issue. The bird was rescued from possible extinction by a cross-fostering programme adopted in recent years by the New Zealand Wildlife Service and there are now 20. There were five in 1980.
The coins are being struck by the Royal Mint in Britain — 15,000 proof dollars, 15,000 proof sets, 40,000 uncirculated dollars, and 25,000 uncirculated sets. Those wishing to join the mailing list and to order should get in touch with the Coin Section, Treasury, No. 1 The Terrace, Wellington.
