Queen’s Pal impressive in Brabazon trial

A top weight’s victory in the Ashley Meats Brabazon Handicap on Saturday could be well within the powers of Queen’s Pal, if there was any value in yesterday’s training at Riccarton. Other Brabazon candidates to spring pleasingly in yesterday’s training were Jendra and last year’s winner, Dreamville. Queen’s Pal beat her stablemate and younger brother, Young Nick, from the 800 m by six lengths in 48.65, a meritorious run on a yielding track. Jendra, John Dowling’s mount in the Brabazon, did well to complete 1200 m in Imin 19.4 s after being slow to work up to speed. She

was showing great zest for her task near the end, and recorded 49.8 s for her last 800 m. Dreamville returned 49.6 s for his 800 m. He will be a fit runner for the Thistoll stable in the feature flat race at the Christchurch Hunt meeting. Pronto King was paired with Reckon So to run 1200 m in lmin 23.55, the last 800 m in 51.25. Beach Bird breezed in from the 600 m in 37.55.
