Price rise cancelled

PA Wellington The new price freeze caused the cancellation of a price increase introduced only hours earlier on Wednesday. Lion Breweries was in the process of introducing an increase of 2c a nip on spirits when it learnt of the new freeze and decided to cancel the increase, although it was applied briefly in some bars. “At the end of June we were advised of increases in

spirit prices through the merchants and importers,” said the public relations manager for Lion, Mr Des Fitzgerald, “At 11.11 a.m. we learned of Mr Lange’s intention to impose a price freeze, and while we had probably acted properly (in making the increase) it would not be seen so. Nobody would have believed it had been planned some time ago,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
