24-hr trading?
NZPA-Reuter New York The New York Stock Exchange says it is in the initial stages of studying the possibility of 24-hour trading.
The N.Y.S.E. at present trades between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each working day. These hours have been in effect since 1974.
Mr John Phelan, jun., the N.Y.S.E.’s chairman and chief executive officer, said that such a move would be considered only after extensive consultations with member firms, institutions, listed companies and other exchange constituents. The review of trading hours is part of a continuing review to reflect the increasingly international nature of the exchange and its desire to better serve its customers.
Earlier this month, the
exchange’s board of directors voted to remain open for trading on Election Day to provide increased opportunities for investors around the world.
