Mt Vernon appeal
'The Christchurch Civic Trust has raised more than $60,000 for the purchase of the Mount Vernon block on the Port Hills. Although there was still a long way to go to reach the target of $380,000, the trust’s chairman, Mr Graeme Robertson, said yesterday that he was optimistic. The trust could withdraw
the offer by September if there was not enough money, but Mr Robertson was confident the target could be met by the Christchurch public. The trust was meeting twice a week and people were coming forward with good ideas for promoting the fund-raising.
