Work-skills promised

PA Wellington The most important election policy for young voters was the commitment from National that every schoolleaver who could not find a job would be guaranteed job-skills training, said the president of the Young Nationals, Mr Alastair Bell, yesterday.

“The most difficult and yet vital step for young people is between school and work. The guarantee of work-skill training for all school-leavers without a job will ensure that every young New Zealander begins his or her working life with an unequalled opportunity and the very best level of training,” Mr Bell

said. The commitment had real advantages for provincial areas where the continual outflow of young people from a community to find work in the bigger cities would be halted. Less competition for metropolitan jobs would help city school-leavers find work, he said.
