Sumner phones back on

Sumner residents’ telephones were all reconnected by early yesterday morning, after a cable which linked the area exchange to the Christchurch exchange was cut on Tuesday morning. The cable was cut by Kevin Blair Contractors while doing drainage work for the Christchurch City Council in Marriner Street at the foot of Clifton Hill.

The firm’s manager, Mr Kevin Blair, said that the Post Office plans had been incorrect and that the 300line cable was metre out of place. However, Post Office technicians had checked the map again yesterday and found the cable was in place, said its senior divisional engineer, Mr W. B. ten Kley.
