National sticks to jobs forecast
National maintains its 1981 prediction that its growth and development strategy will bring New Zealand 410,000 new jobs by 1990.
Provided the investments were maintained, the expectation was that the 410,000job target could be achieved, said the Minister of National Development, Mr Birch.
The 410,000 job figure was a consequence of National’s growth strategy for the whole economy and not just the main energy projects. He questioned whether the continued doubts about the 410,000 jobs from the Coalition for Open Government was an “antidevelopment, anti-Govern-ment crusade,” and whether it would be continued if there were a change of Government.
