Native trees in reserves

Sir,—Derrick .Rooney’s article today (June 28) should have convinced the critics on the necessity to remove the oaks from the Riccarton Bush. In addition, how I wish the City Council would replace fallen trees in our park reserves and on riverbanks by planting some of our native trees, especially beeches. This would give more variety and lessen the bleak outlook in winter. There would also be less maintenance in leaf disposal; it would encourage native birds and engender interest in our own unique flora. — Yours, etc., N. T. A. ROMERIL. June 28, 1984.
