Churches’ search for unity

This year in New Zealand, thousands of Catholics and Anglicans will meet during July and August for discussion and study of issues raised by the current dialogue between them. The main focus of study will be on the agreed statements published in the 1982 final report of the AnglicanRoman Catholic International Commission.

These statements from 9 representatives of each Church, were on the eucharist, ministry and ordination and authority in the Church — the three main areas of traditional disagreement.

Members of both churches world-wide are now being asked to examine the findings of the report and decide whether they truly reflect the beliefs of the respective traditions. Radio New Zealand commissioned Peter Davis to produce “Search For Unity” — a series of three programmes in which Roman Catholic and Anglican bishops in New Zealand discuss issues raised by the report. The programmes will be broadcast on the National programme at 5 p.m. on July 8, 15 and 22. Study groups will find “Search For Unity” helpful as a discussion starter, says Radio New Zealand. The series is available on cassette from Replay Radio, P.O. Box 2092, Wellington, at a cost of $2O.
