Addictions
Sir,—lt is believed by clinical ecologists that allergy to environmental substances whether chemicals, pollutants or food, can lead to addiction. Acidosis occurs during this addiction process. By raising the pH of the body using alkaline foods like molasses and beans, and/ or sodium or potassium bicarbonate, the craving for these substances is relieved, and the withdrawal symptoms. Are these techniques used at all in the alcoholic and drug addiction programmes, or with glue-sniffing children? Allergies can develop before birth if the mother is allergic and her nutrition is inadequate for her. Child sleeplessness may indicate allergy. In harder economic times our addiction problems are liable to increase. — Yours, etc., S. J. FIELD (Mrs). June 11, 1984.
