N.C.C. secretary to resign

The general secretary of the National Council of Churches, the Rev. Angus MacLeod, has announced that he will step down from the post at the end of this year. Mr MacLeod said in Christchurch last evening that he had served two fiveyear terms as general secretary and it was time he gave somebody else a turn. “I would rather go back to a parish now,” he said. He said that very few, if any, secretaries, had served

more than two terms. The job should be shared round the churches. Mr MacLeod said he had given notice six months so that the council could advertise the post and find a suitable replacement. He regretted he would not be involved in the final stages of talks to set a new ecumenical body higher than the council. “These talks have been going on for quite a while now, but I am sure that my replacement will be capable of seeing them through,” he said.
