Boath move approved

Christchurch Brother United has released its international captain, Allan Boath, to the Auckland Rothmans Soccer League club, University Cowan. However, Boath, who joined United at the start of this season, has the threat of suspension hanging over him. Last week-end, he received his third caution in United’s 2-2 draw with Mount Wellington. That, combined with two other bookings, on May 20 and June 2, takes him over the 20 penalty point mark, at which suspensions are imposed. Under Canterbury Football Association rules, Boath will be able to play until his case is brought before the judicial committee which is likely to be on July 9. Boath, who is expected to play for University next Sunday against Manurewa, is intending to remain in Christchurch for the near

future and will travel to University’s matches.

Although neither Christchurch United nor University was prepared to disclose the fee University will pay United for the Scottishborn midfielder, it is understood to be substantial.

University’s coup this season has been the signing of the former England international, Trevor Brooking. He is expected to arrive in Auckland on Saturday morning. Whether he will play against Manurewa will depend on his condition on arrival after the arduous non-stop flight from London.

Christchurch spectators are unlikely to see the midfield maestro, however, as he is expected to return to Britain on about August 20 — six days before University plays United in Christchurch.
