New national park favoured
PA Wellington The proposed national park along the Wanganui River has the support of the National Parks and Reserves Authority. The authority met in Greymouth yesterday and decided to recommend the 79,000-hectare park to the Minister of Lands, Mr Elworthy. The authority said that it believed the river was of national importance, worthy of permanent protection, and “managed in a way compatible with the management of the adjoining national park.”
