Police seek wife, child
PA Timaru Police inquiring into the activities of a man calling himself Dr StanleyStokowski are also looking for his wife and child. Detective Superintendent R. N. MacDonald, of Wellington, who heads the inquiry, said yesterday that the police had confirmation that “Stokowski" had left New Zealand, but they had no confirmation that his wife and child had gone. He said that properties at Clandeboye and Hadlow in South Canterbury were searched as part of the inquiry for “Stokowski,” who headed an ethanol plant at Clandeboye. The police want to speak to “Stokowski” in connection with theft of a passport from a Temuka house in March. The searches have been
made over the last few weeks and have included the draining of a well at the ethanol plant.
Mr MacDonald would not comment on reports that firearms and drugs were found in the well. At the request of the police, the Fire Service drained the well about two weeks ago.
Mr MacDonald, director of drug enforcement and intelligence at Police National Headquarters, said the police were liaising with overseas law-enforcement agencies in the search for the man, who left on March 17 allegedly using the stolen passport.
A Christchurch computer magazine’s report of receiving a letter from “Stokowski” after the police believe he left the country has now been satisfactorily explained.
