Night club patrons scramble for cash
PA Auckland A theft that went wrong sparked a scramble for hundreds of dollars lying on the floor of an Auckland night club, the District Court at Auckland was told. Christopher James Froggatt, aged 21, a process worker, ended up with less than half the money he stole, but Judge Kerr ordered him to pay the full amount to the night club. Froggatt pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing $783, the property of Cleopatra’s night club. He was sentenced to six
months periodic detention
and ordered to pay $537.34 restitution. Sergeant Steve Cole said that about 2 a.m. on Sunday, Froggatt ordered a drink in Cleopatra’s night club. The barmaid placed a cash bag on the counter and turned to pour a drink. Froggatt grabbed the bag. and in doing so spilled some of the contents on the floor. He was caught by security staff soon after. The money on the floor was taken by several unidentified people in the bar.
