‘Vege’ liberation group formed
NZPA-AAP Goulburn, N.S.W. A group calling itself Vegetable Liberation has been born to stand up for the rights of all plants and vegetables. A Young National Partydelegate, Mr lan Mack, moved a motion for the formation of the group at the party's annual conference. on behalf of his “pet cabbage.” “For years we have been exploiting innocent vegetables and plants for our own selfish use." he said. "No-one stops to consider the pain and indignity a
carrot may suffer as it is torn from the ground. “Humans have rights; we are told animals have rights, so why not the humble spud or daisy?" The motion was a lighthearted send-up of the Animal Liberation group which came under severe criticism from the Young Nationals. Animal Liberation was one of the most serious threats to face primary industry. the conference was told. The group had gained credence on misinformation and sometimes deliberately incorrect information.
