Heathcote library

Sir, — On behalf of the Library Committee, I should like to comment on reports on the cessation of book loans from the extension service of the National Library. We are ineligible for the service as we are within 15 kilometres of a local authority-controlled library, and our community numbers more than 1000. Much as we shall miss the loan of books, we are in no danger of closing our doors. The library is well looked after by a yearly grant from the Heathcote County Council and is well stocked with books. We hope to serve our members with a variable selection. We undeitJand it is possible that there may be some action by local authorities" to plan a regional library source. We are grateful to our friends at the Christchurch branch of the National Library for their past co-operation, and for the interim continuation of the request and information service. — Yours, etc., FRANK SINGLETON, Secretary, Heathcote Valley Library.
