N.Z. travellers to be encouraged

New Zealanders travelling in their own country would get a better deal for their holiday dollar under a Labour Government, said Labour's tourism spokesman, Mr M. K. Moore. Under Labour’s recently released domestic tourism policy, the encouragement of low-cost quality accommodation in desirable locations would be a priority. A Labour government would provide capital on similar terms as private enterprises to voluntary organisations, institutes, welfare societies and trade unions to build good. low-cost holiday homes for their members, said Mr Moore. These homes would be linked by a computer booking system, so that members would have a combined

range of holiday sites to visit, he said. He hoped that the network would be extended to Australia, said Mr Moore. Labour would also encourage travel agents to provide special holiday packages for New Zealanders, with emphasis given to off-peak periods, he said. New ventures would include marae holidays, with assistance given to Maori land incorporations. Youth Hostels and the walkway system would also benefit und’er a Labour government, said Mr Moore, with money being provided for expansion. “Tourism is one of the planks in Labour’s balanced alternative plan to provide wealth and jobs for New Zealanders, said Mr Moqre.
