New videotex service

Fisher and Paykel is to introduce a videotex service for its retail dealer network throughout New Zealand. It is the latest in a series of moves to videotex over the last few weeks, and one of the most significant. Datacom Systems. Ltd (formerly CBL). has been commissioned by Fisher and Paykel to provide the service. Datacom will use a VAX computer in Auckland for its videotex clients.

In the first month the service will be restricted to 20 dealers. Within a short time of the end of this trial Fisher and Pavkel hopes to have 100 to 150 dealers on the service. By the end of the year it is envisaged that most dealers will be linked into the service. The videotex service will provide Fisher and Paykel dealers with a variety of services, including the ability to place orders, inquire

on the status of orders, inquire on contracts, get information on stock, stock levels, products and promotions, order spare parts, and calculate hire purchase and rental contracts. As well as being able to get pages off the videotex computer, dealers will be able to interact with Fisher and Paykel's own computers. Selected information from these computers will be accessed by the videotex computer.
