Dinghy man missing

Extensive shoreline searches by the Christchurch police yesterday failed to find the owner of a 3m dinghy which was found floating in Gollans Bay in Lyttelton Harbour on Saturday afternoon. Inside the dinghy was a lifejacket, a pair of shoes, and a haversack with food. Onshore inquiries by the

police failed to find the owner on Saturday. A search of the harbour bays was done by boat yesterday.

The trailer from which the boat was launched was found yesterday afternoon at Purau, across the harbour from Gollans Bay.

The police were side tracked in their search because the owner of the boat

had borrowed another car to take the dinghy to the water’s edge. Conditions on Lyttelton Harbour yesterday were calm.

The police would not release the name of the owner of the dinghy until relatives had been informed. The search will continue today.
