All Black announcement
NZPA New Plymouth The All Black rugby selectors will face choices between tested players and their up and coming rivals along with questions of fitness when they name their team tomorrow to meet France in the first test. This year’s solitary national trial and the annual North-South match have filled most positions in the All Black side, but the selectors will still have to debate whether the June 16 test should herald the start of their campaign to rebuild the national side.
The coach and selection convener, Bryce Rope, has indicated that this season and the next are likely to see major changes in the All Black side as they meet France and then go on to tour Australia, Fiji and later South Africa. Some long-serving players are nearing retirement and are likely to be unavailable for next season’s ventures, which Mr Rope has indicated are already on the minds of the selectors. The players who will replace those bowing out are likely to be tested in Australia later this year.
