Aorangi plans return to full production
Greymouth reporter
Aorangi Forest Industries, Ltd, its future apparently guaranteed, was already working yesterday towards returning to full production. “I had a telephone call from Whataroa this morning to say that logs were on their way, so that things are starting to look up,” said the company secretary, Mr Stephen Hall, yesterday. The inability of the company, because of financial
difficulties, to buy logs as far away as Naseby in Central Otago and Nelson and then pay the transport costs to its mill outside Greymouth has been its problem. The company, in announcing that it had accepted a proposal being negotiated between the Government and itself, said that the acceptance was dependent on discussion with the company’s creditors. Mr Hall said that he did
not see any real problems in that.
“The details are still being worked out and we are negotiating with our creditors and our hope is to satisfy their requirements as soon as possible,” he said. “We want to see our yard full of logs, and so it is essential that we come to satisfactory arrangements with our creditors, who include our log suppliers and carriers,” said Mr Hall.
