Retail A Executives Bougainville Our client is Arawa Enterprises Ltd, a PNG public company sponsored and financially supported by Bougainville Copper Ltd (and its parent group CRA) which mines copper and gold in the northern Solomons. The company operates a wholesale complex as well as two modern supermarkets and two bulk barns in Arawa (on the coast) and Panguna (29km inland), with 350 employees (20 expatriates) and annual sales approximately NZ $4O million. A wide range of food, liquor and variety merchandise is marketed. Utilisation of EDP is well developed. Two new positions, both reporting to the General Manager, have been created following recent major acquisitions and because of plans to open additional outlets in each of the next few years. Initial appointment will be on a 2 year contract basis and open-ended thereafter. The principal provisions include car allowance of about NZ $6,000 p.a., fully furnished housing at nominal rental, children’s boarding school (secondary) fees with return air fares at term holidays. 5 weeks annual leave with return air fares to point of engagement, bonus at termination or for continued service, and twoway relocation of family and household effects. Merchandise Controller Vicinity NZ $62 500 + above benefits This executive will head up the Merchandise Department (14 staff) with responsibility for achievement of sales, gross profit, stock and markdown budgets through control of the ranging, selection, buying, pricing, merchandising. advertising and sales promotion functions. Most goods are imported from Australasian and Asian countries. Applicants must be successful and innovative senior retail executives, wnose careers have emphasised merchandise buying/management. including policy development and preferably in the food/variety field. Age is flexible but probably in the 30-45 years bracket. Operations Controller Vicinity NZ $4B 750 + above benefits The appointee will assume accountability for the operating standards and performance of the retail side of the business, supervising the 4 outlet managers who in turn direct over 150 staff. Other important functions include staff development and training programmes, and control of expenses, markdowns, .shrinkage, etc. The position calls for a proven track record in line management and initiation of practical improvements in retailing, ideally in a food/variety chain or department store environment.
