“Press” appointments
Mr D. D. L. Borman, editorial manager of “The Press,” has been appointed an assistant editor. The newspaper’s other assistant editor, Mr A. M. Menzies, is on sick leave. Mr Borman joined “The Press” in 1940 as a cadet reporter, then served for four years overseas with the army. He returned to the newspaper after his war service, and later was Parliamentary reporter for four sessions, up to 1954. Mr Borman then became the newspaper’s Christchurch City Council reporter, and he also reported the activities of other local bodies. In 1965 he was appointed deputy chief reporter, and he became chief reporter in 1973. He was appointed editorial manager of “The Press” in 1976. Mr Borman will be succeeded as editorial manager by Mr A. J. Petre. Mr Petre, who succeeded Mr Borman as chief reporter in 1976, joined “The Press” as a cadet reporter in 1959. He worked in the main office of the newspaper and also in the Ashburton and Lyttelton branch offices, and later concentrated on reporting transport matters. He was motoring editor for 14 years, and also spent time subediting and in the newspaper’s illustrations department before becoming chief reporter. He was awarded a Commonwealth Press Union fellowships Britain in 1976.
Late last year Mr Petre was seconded to Southern Television, Ltd, to assist in the preparation of an application for a third-channel television warrant. Mr B. A. Rennie, who has been appointed chief reporter, joined “The Press” in 1970 as a cadet reporter. After several years of reporting, Mr Rennie became a sub-editor, and for six years he worked on the newspaper’s international news pages. Mr Rennie returned to news reporting about a year ago. He assumed the duties of chief reporter, in the absence of Mr Petre, late last ye£r. T
