N.Z. data inadequate
New Zealand is, as yet, unable to provide exact figures as to congenital abnormalities because of inadequate data. The responsibility of forwarding data lies with the doctor or midwife conducting the confinement, rather than the hospital Dr Don Aickin, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the Christchurch
Clinical School, commented New Zealand figures are hard to obtain because our methodsof data collection are not reliable. “On the assumption that the British figures are accurate, we are certainly not in a position to compare New Zealand figures. “Our register still staggers on, out it is not accurate,” he said
