Canty raises $76,000 for crippled children
Canterbury residents gave more than $76,000 to the Crippled Children Society annual appeal on Saturday. The figure was 12 per cent higher than last year, said the Canterbury and West Coast branch manager, Mr Bob Mitchell. Final figures would not be known for a couple of weeks, he said, but it looked as if the branch would reach the $lOO,OOO it had aimed for. Organisation of the appeal had been very good,
said Mr Mitchell, with 3500 collectors in the Canterbury region. The only area short of collectors was Kalapoi, and alternative arrangements were being made to pick up envelopes which had not been collected. Money from the appeal will go towards the running and maintenance of the Christchurch Crippled Children Society centre, said Mr Mitchell. The annual running costs of the centre are $600,000.
