Marriott wins squash
Justine Marriott (Sumner), aged 17, confirmed her top seeding in the Urban Sports Apparel women’s open squash tournament with a straight Bwin over Rowan Toia n) in the final at the hurch Club courts yesterday. Last year’s champion, Kathy Hargreaves (Bumside), did not defend her title. Adele Coll (nee Ellery), of Greymouth, took the third placing by beating Raewyn Young (Lincoln), also in three games. Results:— Semi finals Open. — J. Marriott (Summner) beat R. Young (Lin, coin), 9-6, 9-5, 9-2; R. Toia (Lincoln), beat A Coll (Greymouth), 9-6, 8-10, 4-9, 9-7, 9-5. Final: Marriott beat Toia, 10-8,
9-5, 9-0. Play-off for third: Coll beat Young, 9-3, 10-8, 9-3. Plate: D. Jones (Christchurch). Consolation plate: R. O’Sullivan (Christchurch). Special plate: G. Maaka (Christchurch).
